Kevin E. Gockley, 52, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011, at his Fort Morgan home after a valiant three year battle with cancer. He was born November 9, 1958, in St. Francis, KS, to Lester Eugene & Verla Jean (Weeden) Gockley. In 1965 the Gockley family moved to Fort Morgan. Kevin graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1976. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1982. Kevin was an outstanding athlete, excelling in wrestling and was an avid tri-athlete. He was a state wrestling champion for Fort Morgan and a Northern Conference wrestling champion at UNC. He loved to compete in distance runs, duathlons, triathlons, and bicycle races, doing so until the time of his batter with cancer. On November 4, 1995, Kevin married Nelly Guevara in Fort Morgan. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for over 20 years and was currently working for the USDA as a meat inspector. Kevin was a loving father, and the passion of his life was his family, whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed vacations with them and enjoying their activities. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fort Morgan where he had served as a deacon. Survivors include his wife, Nelly; two daughters, Janese and Jessica; a step-son, Bryan, and an adopted daughter, Bessy; his parents, Less & Verla; his brother, Mark of Sterling, CO, and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 18, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan. The service will conclude at the Church. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan on Sunday from 2 – 5 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the First Christian Church.
