Koleta Z. Shirl, 88, longtime Fort Morgan resident, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Washington County Nursing Home in Akron. Koleta was born August 31, 1925, in Hamlin, TX to Marvin and Delzie Hill. On July 15, 1950, she married Dave Shirl in Clayton, NM. They moved to Fort Morgan in 1968. Koleta spent her days as an avid homemaker and a preachers wife. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and family trips to the mountains. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her 3 children, several grandchildren, including Melissa Geiger and her husband, Richard of Otis, CO; many great grandchildren, including Michael, Matthew and Shelby Grimes, and Shane Geiger, and several great-great grandchildren, and two of her most cherished friends, Lawrence Schrum and Connie Vaagen. Koleta was preceded in death by her husband, one son, two brothers and her parents. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the chapel. Private inurnment will be in Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan.
