Larry Alvan Andersen of Brush passed from this life on April 9, 2024, after a long illness. He was 76. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Andersen and his wife Kim of Brush, his sister, Ellen Hutton and her husband Ron of Mission Viejo, CA, and his brother, Arne Andersen and partner, Ron Montoya of Cathedral City, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Andersen, his parents, Margaret and Alvan Andersen and his sister, Jan Frausel.

Larry was born on March 26, 1948. He grew up on the family farm SW of Brush. He learned all aspects of farming from his father and became an invaluable help to him. He raised cattle and pigs as 4-H projects and was an FFA member. He graduated from Brush High School in 1966, then attended Northeastern Junior College and Colorado State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in business. Larry married Emily Wightman in November of 1977. Their son Jeff was born in 1980.

Larry had a lifelong passion for cars and all things mechanical, which became his career. He was adept at diagnosing any automotive problem and recommending the solution. He returned to Brush to work at Standard Motor Supply which he eventually purchased and ran for many years. He collected cars, most notably a 1966 Shelby GT 350 Mustang which he purchased in 1972 for $2,000.00. He finally parted with it a few years ago.

He served for 20 years as a volunteer at the Brush Volunteer Fire Department and was also a member of the Brush City Council.

He will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. It took a while for him to tell a story or a joke due to his speaking style, but the punch line would be hilarious. He liked to keep a schedule, particularly regarding mealtimes. When asked if he was hungry, he always looked at his watch.

A Celebration of Life service for Larry will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 19th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. Please join his family for the service and to share memories over lunch afterward.
