Obituary

Larry Carr, 69, lifelong area resident, died, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at his home in Fort Morgan. He was born March 29, 1947 in Fort Morgan to Ralph and Elsie (Pierce) Carr.

He married Thelma Nestor on May 25, 1969 in Wiggins.

Larry was a devoted husband and loving father to his children.

Until the time of his own illness, Larry was his son's (Lance) care giver.

In 2008 Lance, who has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, sent a touching tribute video to the Today Show in New York City in which he described a relationship between father and son. The Today Show was so impressed they sent Larry, Thelma, and Lance to New York City for three days to be on a segment of their TV program. In this segment, Lance told the audience of Larry's selfless devotion to him, and about the unique connection they had. One of the examples being, they were best friends and at times finished each other's sentences. The Today show had a song written for Larry, and it was sung to him by a Broadway actor and singer. At the end of the Today Show segment, they surprised them all by giving Lance a motorized wheel chair.

Larry worked for the City of Fort Morgan for 28 years as the superintendent of the cemetery. He was born and raised in Fort Morgan, so he knew many of the families that have loved ones buried in that cemetery.

Larry enjoyed gardening, watching television, and the Broncos. He was also very proud of the lights he always put on his house during the Christmas season.   Last year he won first prize for his display.

Larry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Thelma Carr of Fort Morgan, two sons, Lance Carr of Fort Morgan, and Wes Carr of Longmont, one daughter, Christy (fiancé Shamrock Watkins), of Fort Morgan, grandchildren Trenton, Chloe, and Kayla, and one nephew, Teddy Sanchez. Larry was preceded in death by two brothers, Aubrey Allen "Doc" Carr, and Ralph Vernon "Butch" Carr Jr., and his parents.

In keeping with Larry's wishes, no memorial services are scheduled at this time.
