Obituary

Larry Leonard Chartier, 82, of Brush, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 surrounded by family at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.

Larry was born February 15, 1939, to Edward and Bessie Chartier in Weldona, He graduated from Brush High School in 1957, shortly after joining the US Army with his brother Robert, as Sergeant Paratrooper in the 82 nd Airborne.  On April 24, 1965, he married Patricia Amsberry in Brush. Early in their marriage they spent time living in Prescott, Arizona.  In 1976 he came back and took over the family farm north of Brush, which has been in the family for 78 years.  In addition to the family farm, Larry also had several other business ventures.  Owning a gas station in Brush and a paint store and drywall business with his brothers in Arizona.  He ran a sand and gravel business for 4 decades, grew a produce stand into a wholesale food business, and most recently completed the successful development of the Overland Ridge Estates subdivision northwest of Brush.

Larry was a strong follower of Jesus Christ and loved his family, his farm, and his country very much.  He was a member of the Ray Street Baptist Church where he actively served as a Deacon for several decades.  He was a former officer and active member of Brush American Legion and was selected in 2018 for the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  He and Patty won the Watrous Pioneer Award at the Brush Rodeo and received the Angle Among Us Award a few years prior.  Larry was also active with the Morgan County Fair Board, was a dedicated 4-H leader and earned the award of 4-H Leader of the Year for the State of Colorado.

He is survived by his wife, Patty; his children Greg Chartier of Sterling, Kari Linker of Brush, and Scott Chartier of Windsor; two sisters, Donna Chartier of Durant, OK, and Barbara Refior of Plano, TX; one brother, Garry Chartier of Prescott, AZ; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bessie Chartier; his brother, Robert Chartier; his daughter, Ronda Chartier; and great-grandson, Michael (Mikey) DeBello.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 7 th from 4 – 6 PM at the Heer Mortuary in Brush.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 8 th at 10:00 AM at the Ray Street Baptist Church, 507 Ray St. in Brush.  Interment will follow in Brush Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to American Legion – Sagebrush Post 68 and sent to Heer Mortuary, 225 E. Platte Ave., Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
