Larry Eugene
Groves
Oct 18, 1936 — Feb 24, 2018
God called our uncle, Larry Groves, home on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from East Morgan County Hospital. He was surrounded by his nieces and nephews and passed peacefully.
Larry was born in Orchard, Colorado on October 18, 1936 to Jess and Selma (Burkhart) Groves. He attended school in Fort Morgan and began helping on the family farm at an early age. In 1970 he built a new dairy barn on his parent's farm south west of Fort Morgan and bought the dairy herd from his parents. He continued to milk cows until 1987 and farmed for many years thereafter.
Larry was a man of God who was very well versed in the scriptures and enjoyed sharing them with family and friends. He was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Moran.
In Larry's younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews as being a big tease when they were young. Often, times making them scream for "mercy" but always leaving them looking forward to the next visit. Later in life, trips to Central City with family and friends brought him great joy.
Larry was preceded in death his parents, one sister, Lucille Kembel and brother-in- law Kenny, one brother, Jess Groves Jr. and sister-in-law Alyce, nephews, Gary Allen Groves, Rich Ferguson, Andy and Timothy Kembel, and one niece, Joy Groves.
He is survived by longtime companion, Margie Webb and dear friends, Scott and Judy Gibson, along with nieces Penny (Mike) Mount, Deb Ferguson, Dawn (Andy) Gerken and nephews, Jeff (Kathy) Kembel, Brian (Kolleen) Kembel, Brad (Trish) Kembel, Pat Groves, Mike (Erika) Groves, 20 great nieces and nephews, and many great-great nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 5 until 7 pm at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
Memorial Gifts may be made in Larry's name to either the Trinity Lutheran Church or Bethesda/Good Shepard in care of the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.
