Obituary

Larry Dennis Jackson, 89, passed away on July 11, 2024, in Byers, Colorado. Born on June 11, 1935, in Hudson, Colorado, Larry led a vibrant and adventurous life, marked by his passion for teaching and a love for the great outdoors.

After graduating from high school in Hudson, Larry joined the US Army in 1954, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, until receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. He especially loved jumping out of airplanes.

After his military service, Larry pursued higher education at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, where he earned a Master's Degree in Vocational Education. He dedicated over two decades of his life to educating students at Cherry Creek Schools, inspiring many with his knowledge and passion until his retirement in 1997.

In addition to his educational career, Larry was deeply involved in farming and ranching, specializing in breeding, raising, and training various breeds of driving and riding horses, mules and donkeys. His adventurous spirit was evident in his hobbies, which included bull riding, buffalo riding, chariot racing, gymkhanas, and horse shows.

Larry was a beloved figure in his community and his family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy 'Bobbi' Jackson; his children, Skip Jackson (Jerri), Kathy Odgen (Brent), and step-sons Mike Heideman (Michele) and Daniel Heideman (Joan). His legacy continues through his nine grandchildren and eight great­ grandchildren, who remain in Colorado. Larry's life was also enriched by the presence of his brother, Delmer Jackson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, NaDeane and Del Jackson, and his brothers, Robert and Galen Jackson.

A Graveside Service will be held at Hoyt Cemetery in Wiggins, Colorado, on July 19, 2024, at 10:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life, Prayer Service, and lunch at the Brighton Elks Lodge in Brighton, Colorado, at 1:30 pm. Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan, Colorado, is assisting the family during this time.

Larry's life was a testament to his adventurous spirit, commitment to education, and deep love for his family. His legacy will undoubtedly live on through the countless lives he touched.
