LaRue M. Frasier, 91, known for fostering music in the Woodrow community, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. Through teaching piano, organizing vocal groups and directing music in the Last Chance church, her love of music launched generations of local musicians.

LaRue was born March 24, 1926, in McPherson, KS, the first child of Erland & Esther Bengtson. She was raised in the Swedish community of Lindsborg, KS, and maintained Swedish customs in her home, especially at Christmas.

She earned a music education degree from Bethany College in Lindsborg, and completed additional undergraduate work at Fort Hays State College and Colorado Teacher's College (now UNC). Her family had moved to western Kansas during LaRue's high school years, and she began her teaching career in Weskan, KS schools.

On June 4, 1955, she married Marshall Frasier, with whom she'd graduated from high school in Sharon Springs, KS. They moved to the Frasier family ranch in Washington County where LaRue learned to ride horseback. She also worked horses under light harness, learning to drive a buggy that appeared in several local parades. LaRue was a Master Farm Homemaker, a member of the Colorado & Washington County Cowbelles, and a charter member of the Limon – Woodlin Music Club. She was also a very active member of the Howard United Methodist Church in Last Chance. Her passion for music – playing the keyboard, singing, and directing choirs – has lived on through several community organizations. LaRue was also known for hosting elaborate dinner parties at the ranch.

Survivors include her three sons, Joe (Cindy) of Limon; Mark (Tina) of Fort Morgan, and Chris (Leanna) of Denver; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall, and a brother, Laurin.

Funeral services will be held at the Howard United Methodist Church in Last Chance on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 11:00 AM. Following a reception, interment will be at the Walks Camp Cemetery at 1:30 PM. The family asks that memorial gifts be made either to the Howard United Methodist Church or the Limon – Woodlin Music Club c/o the Heer Mortuary in Brush.
