LAUREN D. WALTER SR., 92, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. He was born November 17, 1917 in Auburn, IN to Squire Denver & Floy (Ensley) Walter. Mr. Walter served in the U.S. Navy and he retired as a Master Chief from the Navy Reserve after 38 years of service. He married Jeannette Barentzen on July 27, 1940 in North Hollywood, CA. Mr. & Mrs. Walter lived in Solvang, California for the past 25 years and most recently traveled back and forth, making Fort Morgan their home as well. Mr. Walter spent most of his working life in the plumbing industry and retired as the C.E.O. of Walter Plumbing Parts Manufacturing Co. Inc. He was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Santa Ynez, CA and he attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Mr. Walter was also a member of Yorktown CV-5 Club, Inc., PBY Catalina International Assoc., and the American Legion. He was an avid reader, gardener, and history buff. He is survived by his wife Jeannette Walter and his son, Barry E. Walter Sr., of Fort Morgan, and his son Lauren D. Walter Jr. of Crookston, MN; two daughters, Paulette Allsmiller of Winter Garden, FL, and Cynthia McKelvey of Mission Hills, CA; and his sister, Nila Morrison of Sturgis, MI. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; Nadine Bourne, Michael Rich, Barry Walter Jr., Susan Spencer, Bruce Conger, Jeffery Rich, Patricia Walter, Andra Godin, Joshua Walter, Lauren Walter, Cordelia Morris, Thomas Allsmiller, Natira McKelvey, Franklin Walter, Nathaniel Walter, Jamie Hartman And Leanne Hartman, and 22 great grandchildren. Mr. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Weston, Raymond, Paul, and Verlin; three sisters, Ellen, Wilma, and Thyra; his daughter Jennifer Hartman and two great granddaughters, Jennifer Morris and Jeannette Walter. Visitation will be Sunday, July 25th from 4 – 6 PM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Funeral services will be Monday, July 26th at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow at 2:15 PM in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to Make a Wish Foundation of Colorado or American Syringomylia & Chiari Alliance Project Inc.
