LaVonne Janice Wessel, 81, longtime resident of Brush, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. She was born October 9, 1928 in Alliance, Nebraska to George and Lena Holthus. She married Cecil Wessel on August 22, 1948 in Alliance. They moved to Fort Morgan in 1960 and then to Brush in 1969. She and Cecil owned and operated Hartwig Hardware in Brush for several years. LaVonne was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of several bridge clubs. She also enjoyed sewing. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were very important to her. LaVonne is survived by her husband, Cecil, of Brush and three children, Steve Wessel of Brush, Lynette Silvrants of Houston, TX and Renita Beery of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by five brothers, Gene Holthus of Cheyenne, WY, Eldon Holthus of Mitchell, NE, Ivan Holthus of Lakeside, CA, Paul Holthus of Culbertson, NE and Neal Holthus of Gering, NE; two sisters, Willetta Dye and Loraine Boness, both of Alliance, NE, five grandchildren and nine and a half great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wendell Holthus. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 1, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery in Brush. Friends may make memorial donations to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan.
