June 14, 2012 Lawrence "Larry" Bell, 87, longtime area resident, died Wednesday June 13, 2012 at the Valley View Villa Care Center in Ft. Morgan. He was born November 9, 1924 on a farm near Goff, Kansas to Everton and Hulda (Bareiss) Bell. Lawrence served in the Coast Guard during WWII aboard the USS Centarus in the South Pacific. He took part in six invasions and for his heroism was awarded the Silver Star. Lawrence married Millicent McQueen on October 18, 1946 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Mr. Bell farmed in Kansas a few years before going to work for the Sinclair Oil Company. His job took him from Wyoming to Colorado, to Texas and then Alaska where he was head of safety during the research and design of the Trans Alaskan Pipeline. He returned to Colorado and worked out of the Denver office until he retired in 1984. He then moved back to Ft. Morgan. Lawrence was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Ft. Morgan. He was also a member of the Elks, the IOOF and life member of the VFW and the American Legion. Lawrence enjoyed traveling, playing golf, photography and making fine hand crafted furniture. Survivors include his wife Millicent of Ft. Morgan, sons, Merwin Bell and wife Jo Ann of Casper, Wyoming and Daniel Bell and wife Cathy of Lakewood, CO, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Roy, Earl, and Gary Bell and sister Opal. He was preceded in death by brothers Noble and Alvin Bell and his parents. Memorial Services will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 10:30 am at the First Christian Church in Ft. Morgan. Inurnment will follow in Memory Gardens.
