LAWRENCE DEAN "RED" HAYS was born May 25, 1918 in Indianola, Nebraska to Herbert Carl Hays & Myrtle Anne Bonner-Hays. His family moved to a farm 13 miles north of New Raymer in 1929. He graduated from New Raymer School in 1939. Red worked for two years for Ben Walker, farming and at Ben's Texaco Station before joining the Navy in September 1941. He spent most of his tour in WWII on the supply ship, the USS Uvalde in the South Pacific. Red returned home to New Raymer where he worked for McConnell Implement until 1951. He then worked for Denver Grain Elevator for 11 years. He moved to Fort Morgan in 1962 to work for Jack's Bean Co. until his retirement in 1982, however, he continued working campaign season until 1992. Red married Florence Lindsey Davis on June 7, 1963 and had an instant family of four children; Debbie, Donna, David, and Dolly. It takes a great man to accept four children into his life and treat them as his own. Their sister, Mary Annett Hays was born August 8, 1964. He was an avid gardener and he collected antique radios and electronics. He enjoyed watching the Broncos and Rockies win. Survivors include his wife Florence; daughters, Debbie Rediess, Donna Kirkendall, Dolly McEndaffer, and Mary Hays; one brother, Wayne Hays and one sister, Erma Dubois, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Faye Jones and Esther Hays; two brothers, Earl Hays and Floyd Hays; and one son, David Davis. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Morgan Church of The Nazarene in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Fort Morgan.
