Leah Borum, age 95, died on January 2, 2015, at Ebenezer Lutheran Care Center, Brush, Colorado. Born in 1919 in Brush, she grew up as an only child on a ranch twenty-seven miles south of Fort Morgan. In 1946, Leah married Richard Borum and began a life of raising a family. She loved the prairie, horses, hard work, and all animals. Ranch life was always in her heart and was the foundation for her life. Leah would say, "It's a good life if you don't weaken." Cooking and baking were a passion of Leah's, and she will always be remembered for her homemade cookies and pickles and for recipes given to friends. Although she was an avid gardener, her favorite flowers were the blooming cactus on the prairie. Leah passed her love of books and reading on to her daughters. Because her special interest was Colorado history, with an emphasis on ranching and pioneers, she was a source of information to the community. Leah's life was simple. She was a good listener and loyal friend who could keep your secrets. A prolific letter writer, she never forgot birthdays, and she maintained life-long correspondence with family members and even the pen-pals of her youth. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard, and her parents to whom she was deeply devoted, Dayton and Roxy (Debaun) Middlemist. She is survived by two daughters, Shari Wilson (Robert) and Linda Benz (Curtis), by grandsons Andrew and Justin, and by three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Heer Mortuary Chapel, 225 Platte Avenue East, Ft. Morgan, Colorado. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Care Center, Brush, Colorado.
