Lee Roy Riley, 88, of Brush, died Tuesday morning at his home in Brush. He was born August 27, 1921 in Grainfield, KS, to M.M. and Lettie Riley. He married Iris Towers on August 19, 1951 in the home of her parents, Clayton and Letha Nickell, in the Flat Top community south of Last Chance. At the age of two, his family moved to eastern Colorado where he attended school in Hugo and Genoa. Subsequent to a short term in 1939 in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), he began work as a farm hand on the E.J. Sutton property south of Last Chance. Upon the death of Mr. Sutton in 1963, he assumed the operation of the farm until he retired in 1985 and moved to the Hillrose area. He and his wife moved into their home in Brush in 1987. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Fort Morgan, a long time member of the Woodlin Lions Club, the Brush Senior Citizen Center, and a member of the Singers and Swingers Kitchen Band. Lee Roy enjoyed playing solitaire, gardening and growing flowers. He also felt rewarded being able to help at the senior center by delivering meals, calling Bingo, washing dishes and being involved with his friends. Many family members and friends were happy recipients of his special hobby of woodworking, making bowls, barrels, and some items of furniture, including many cabinets and items in the home. Lee Roy is survived by his wife, Iris, of Brush; his son, Sammy, Towers, and his wife, Barbara of Otis, and their children, Walter Towers, Andrew Towers, Donte (Royanne) Towers, and Ezekiel Towers; his daughter, Lorrie Query, and her husband, Thomas, of Hillrose, and their children, Emily Curtis (Cody), Erin Query and Todd Query; his son, Ronald Riley, and his wife, Debra, of Tribune, KS, and their children, Ryan Riley (Megan), Troy Riley (Sarah) and Shayne Riley; 6 great-grandchildren, Austin Curtis, Cole Curtis and Dillon Curtis, Rowan Riley, Aidan Riley and Lana Riley; one sister, Evelyn Riley, of Brush; and one brother, Edward (Joyce) Riley, of Brush. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Brookman; two brothers, Clifford Riley and Earl Riley; and his parents. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 PM at the Community of Christ Church, 7th and West St., in Fort Morgan. The service will conclude at the church. Following the memorial service, a reception will be held at the Centennial Senior Center, 612 Ray St., in Brush.
