Leonard James

Leonard James England Sr., passed away on January 11, 2025. He was born on November 10, 1935 to Hersell England and Katherine Gebauer.
Leonard was raised with his siblings on a farm in Akron, CO. Leonard worked in the fields and on the farm alongside his parents and siblings. He graduated from Akron high school. Shortly after graduation he entered the Army and served 4 years in Germany. After returning from the military service, he moved to Fort Morgan, CO and worked at Woody's Conoco for approximately 22 years as a mechanic. He also attended Morgan Community College and took autobody and mechanic courses. Leonard also worked for 26+ years delivering parts for NAPA Auto Store before retiring at the age of 83.
Leonard married Bernice Kembel in 1958. They had three children: Leonard England Jr., Rodney England (Amanda), and Tammy England-Chubbuck (Johnny). They raised their children in Fort Morgan and later divorced. Leonard later remarried Juanita Torres until she passed away.
Leonard loved working on old cars and gardening. He took pride in the simple things and never had a weed in his garden. He was a kind and generous neighbor and often helped others in their time of need. He also loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
Leonard is survived by his sister, Dorothy Balcom and Lupe Torres along with many nieces and nephews. His children; Leonard Jr., Tammy and Johnny Chubbuck, and Amanda; grandchildren, A.J. and Kim, Rodney II, Samantha and Casey Anderson, Angel Martinez, Joe and Missy Camacho and family; great grandchildren, Ryan Lee, Marissa, Isaiah, Alizay, Anna, and two more expected in June this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; Robert, Adelle, Craig; son, Rodney; wife, Jaunita; nephew, Darrel, and his stepdaughter, Olga Camacho.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 16th at 10:30 AM at Platte Valley Baptist Church, 22750 US Highway 34, Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
A special thank you to Valley View Villa Life Care Center for all the care and compassion they provided for Leonard. He felt that they were his second family. Leonard felt loved and appreciated by all the staff and residents that he interacted with during his stay there.
