Obituary

Leora B. Massey, 89, longtime Brush area resident, passed away in the emergency room at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush on Wednesday morning, March 21, 2018. She was born in Riverton, NE, to Blufford T. & Edith M. Troyer on May 10, 1928.

After living near the Kansas-Nebraska border for several years,   The Troyer family moved to Ft. Morgan when Leora was a teenager. On September 13, 1947, Leora married Jeadie W Massey in Sterling, CO.

Leora & Jeadie lived in several different communities as Jeadie was a heavy equipment operator and they traveled as work become available. After a few years of working in southern Oregon they moved back to Colorado and they eventually settled in Brush. Leora worked at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in several capacities. She worked as a waitress at Crain's Cafe for several years and she was a sales clerk at the Montgomery Wards Store in Brush. Leora was a Notary Public for several years and assisted Jeadie with the bookkeeping for his used car sales.

When health allowed, Leora was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Brush. In her younger years she also was a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed gardening and loved to watch her flowers grow and bloom every spring. Leora read practically everything that she could get her hands on, but the Bible was her favorite book. She also embroidered many pillow cases and dish towels.

Leora's greatest pleasure was spending time with her Great-Great Grandchildren; Lukas, Sawyer, Aurora, and Adler. You could not get the smile off of her face when those "little angels" were visiting her!

Survivors include her 2 sons, Jay (Betty) and Brian (Debora Beck-Massey) of Brush; 1 sister, Eileen Mayfield of Fort Morgan; 2 brothers, Robert Troyer of Salina, KS and Jim Troyer of Kansas City; 3 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 4 great – great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; 1 infant daughter, Sharon Kay, 1 grandson, Casey; 1 great-great granddaughter, Lillie; 3 sisters, Geraldine Troyer, Midge Buxton, & Beverly Gammel; and 3 brothers, Bill, Lee, and Raymond; and her parents.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Trinity Baptist Church, 345 Princeton Street in Brush, at11:00 AM Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary in Brush on Tuesday from 3 - 5 PM.
