LeRoy Henry Baumgartner, 78, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born October 4, 1933, in Keenesburg, Colorado to Henry and Mollie Baumgartner. As a child he attended schools in rural Morgan county. LeRoy served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. He served as a Private First Class in the Missile Defense Unit protecting New York City; he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On July 6, 1958, LeRoy married Barbara Mae Fendel. They farmed in Weld and Morgan counties for several years. LeRoy then operated the Mobile Gas station in Fort Morgan before becoming the owner of H&B Used Cars and Parts on south Sherman Street. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, the Fort Morgan Elks 1143, and the American Legion. LeRoy enjoyed bowling with his wife and bowled for several years on a Friday night league. They rarely missed an opportunity to dance it up at any dutch hop, traveling as far at Mitchell, South Dakota to participate. LeRoy enjoyed visiting Black Hawk and Central City, most recently, he enjoyed his visit this past Sunday for his annual Birthday Trip to Black Hawk with his three adult children. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Fort Morgan; son Scott Baumgartner of Fort Morgan, daughters, Dawn T-Baumgartner of Fort Collins, and Shelly Bristol of Fort Morgan; ten grandchildren, and six great grand children; brothers, Robert of Brighton; and William (Butch) of Fort Morgan; and sister, Shirley of Englewood. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edward, Herbert (Bud), Harold, and Richard. There will be a visitation at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 4 until 6pm. Memorial Services will be Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 10:00am, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan. Inurnment with military honors, conducted by VFW Post 2551, will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan. Memorial donations may be made in the memory of LeRoy Henry Baumgartner to the Alzheimer's Association.
