Obituary

Leslie Weimer ,75 of Fort Morgan Passed away Friday March 4th, 2022 at Colorado Plains Medical Center from a stroke.  He was born May 30, 1946, the fourth child of John and Ruth Weimer.

Les grew up on a farm south of Fort Morgan. He participated in 4-H, FFA and football and track in high school. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School with the tight knit class of 1965. On June 19, 1965, he married Sara Lee Scheirman. Together they had two daughters, Brenda and Laura.

Les briefly worked at Clark Feather and at Great Western Sugar before he began to farm south of Morgan. He grew sugar beets, corn, pinto beans and alfalfa. His work ethic carried him through all the early morning and late-night duties of farming; doing each task in the proper season. If equipment broke, he fixed it; if crops were dry, he irrigated them. In the event of hail, Les grumbled and continued on with hope for a better crop next year. Giving up was not an option. He made a small farm provide all that was needed for a family.  Les had strong opinions and gave advice abundantly. If help was needed by family or neighbors it was provided.  In 2008 he semi-retired to a small hobby farm. This gave him more freedom to be creative. He did metalwork and woodworking, making many beautiful walking sticks and other projects.  Fishing was something that he did more often for longer times. Many trips were made to local lakes and the news of what was biting was always shared with family and friends. In 2014, Les moved into the town of Fort Morgan, and in true form, continued to "farm" his lawn and backyard garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Weimer; brothers, Marvin Weimer, John (Phyllis) Weimer, and brother-in-law, Larry Columbia.

He is survived by his daughters, Laura (Gene) Baltazar of Ft. Morgan and Brenda (Rod) Berg of Cheyenne, WY; five amazing grandchildren, Jake Berg, Rhonda Berg, Levi Berg, Colton Baltazar and Bailey Baltazar.  He is also survived by his ex-wife, Sara Lee Weimer; sister, Evelyn Columbia; brother, Larry (Jeri) Weimer; sister in-law, Kay Weimer and numerous nieces and nephews as well as a number of good friends.

Les would like you all to know you're never too young, old or tired to go fishing and you can't take the farm out of the farm boy.

A memorial service to honor his life will be Tuesday, March 22 nd at 1:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Private inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan at a later date.
