Obituary

Lila Elam Mead Formerly of Ft. Morgan, CO died peacefully April 7, 2008 at Friendship Village in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was 94 years old. Preceded in death by her husband, Emerson M. Mead; infant daughter, Elizabeth Mead; and granddaughter, Christin Marie Mead. Lila is survived by son and wife Perry and Mary Mead of Minneapolis, daughter and son in law Margaret Mead and Kim Amundson of Minneapolis, and son and wife John and Louise Mead of Johnstown, PA; grandchildren Bill and Caryn Mead Kelly and Andrew Amundson; and great-granddaughters Adeline and Isabelle Kelly. Born October 1, 1913 near Akron, CO, Lila graduated from high school in Broken Bow, NE and college in York, NE. She taught elementary school music and reading. She married Emerson Mead in 1943 and moved to Ft. Morgan, CO where her husband owned and operated Mead Lumber Company. Following the death of her husband Lila relocated to be close to her children, living 10 years in Charlotte, NC and seven years in Minneapolis, MN. Lila will be buried with her husband in Ft. Morgan where a private family service is planned. Memorials suggested to Friendship Village Employee Appreciation Fund (EAF), 8100 Highwood Drive, Bloomington, MN 55438 or Shattuck St. Mary's School, PO Box 218, Faribault, MN 55021. Lila's family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Friendship Village who have lovingly and expertly cared for her for the past seven years.
