Lillian B. Epperson passed away at her home on Saturday, May 8. She was born October 25, 1908 in Silex, MO, to Otis J. and Maude E. Gibbs. When she was a small child, the family moved to Morgan County where she lived the rest of her life. Lillian attended Brush public schools, graduating with the class of 1925. Musical training was an important part of her high school years. She accompanied soloists and ensembles and played the organ for the silent movies at the theater. After graduating from high school, Lillian worked for the Clatworthy Hardware Company as a bookkeeper and stenographer and saved her money to go to Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. On March 21, 1935, she married George A. Epperson, a prominent Fort Morgan attorney. Mr. Epperson preceded her in death in 1985, after fifty years of marriage. During World War II, Lillian was a Red Cross volunteer spending countless hours knitting sweaters and rolling bandages for the war effort. Shortly after the war, Lillian and George worked hard toward the building Fort Morgan Community Hospital which is now Colorado Plains Medical Center. Lillian was an accomplished hostess, gourmet cook, and flower gardener. She was a Life Master bridge player having earned 300 masterpoints with the American Contract Bridge League. Lillian was a talented painter and avid reader. She and George travelled extensively and especially enjoyed attending horse races at America's most famous parks. Besides her husband, Lillian was preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Schmidt and Anna Lee Eaves, her brother, George Gibbs, and a nephew, Carroll Schmidt. She is survived by eight nieces and nephews and their children. During the last years of her life, Lillian was able to reside at her home because of the loving care of her neighbor and friend, Esther Bernhardt, and several other faithful caregivers. There has been cremation. A memorial service will be held from St. Charles Episcopal Church on Wednesday, May 19, at 1:30 P.M. Services will conclude at the church.
