Lino Michael Sierra, 88, longtime resident of Fort Morgan went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, December 21, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Lino was born to Moses & Cora Sanchez-Sierra on September 23, 1929 in Del Norte, Colorado.  The Sierra's were homesteaders in The San Luis Valley in Southwestern Colorado. Lino went to school until the 2nd grade then joined the family in farming and ranching in South Fork and Del Norte. Lino joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and served during the Korean War. Lino served during the testing of the atomic bombs and served overseas in Okinawa, Japan and a The U.S. Marshall Islands. Memories during his Service included meeting the famous Helen Keller and 5 Star General Douglas MacArthur.  He was Honorably Discharged in 1952.

Lino married Carmen Trujillo in 1958 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Sierra's moved to Morgan County, Colorado in 1962 when Lino went to work for Archie Glazier custom combining & farming in Wiggins, CO. Lino & Carmen moved to Fort Morgan when Lino went to work for American Beef, Sterling Beef, Excel, & later Cargill. A dedicated worker for over 42 years.  Lino retired at the age of 82. He received his honorable high school diploma in 2004. Lino enjoyed life & entertaining family and friends by cooking delicious meals. Lino was a great cook, many will remember his cookouts & his hospitality. Lino always put family first and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and generous yet humble spirit. Lino enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos, tinkering around his yard, lottery tickets, and traveling to Blackhawk & Central City, Colo.  In his younger years, Lino enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling to other states, seeing the countryside by car to visit family and friends.  Lino always made friends wherever he traveled and enjoyed visiting. He is a life time member of V.F.W. Post #2551 & past Post-Commander. Lino is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years Carmen, their two sons Dan Sierra and Ron Sierra, and one daughter Susie (Heath) Norton, all of Fort Morgan. He also is survived by a son and daughter from his first marriage Ramona Sierra and Michael Sierra of Salt Lake City, UT. Also previous daughters-in-law, Cindy Sierra-Harms of Fort Morgan and Victoria Riley of Tar Heel, NC.  Lino has 6 grandchildren Justin (Samantha) Sierra, Summer (Chris) Kraatz, Daniel (Lindsay) Sierra, Derek Sierra, Owen and Isabella Norton.  Lino has 9 great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Shala, and Landen Sierra, Rylie and Levi Sierra,  Alaina and Adrian Michael Sierra, Patience and Ashter Kraatz.  Lino is survived by 2 sisters Jennie (Tony) Sandoval of Denver, Margaret (Truman) Roper of Grants Pass, OR. Lino is preceded by his parents, son John Sierra, sisters Madeline Sipes and Helen Trujillo, and brothers Lee and Moses Sierra. Lino also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family friends, previous co-workers, & an abundance of loving memories.

There will be a Rosary Vigil Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 7:00 pm at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 29, 2017 at 10:00 am at Saint Helena's Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens. Memorial Gifts can be given in Lino's name in care of the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.
