Lois Darlene Buchanan, 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Fort Morgan Friday evening. Lois was born to D.T. and Laura (Johnson) Stevens on September 7, 1933 in Akron. She was raised in Akron and graduated with the Class on 1951 from Akron High School. Following graduation she attended and completed cosmetology school and worked in Denver. In 1953 after an accident, she returned to Akron to work for the telephone company and Harpham Drug Store. On November 24, 1958 she was united in marriage to Frank L. Buchanan in Raton, New Mexico. They made their home in the Fort Morgan area were they raised 6 sons. Frank was a lineman for MCREA and Lois was the warden of the Buchanan compound! Lois was a devoted wife and mother. In 1989 Frank became paralyzed in a work related accident and Lois devoted her life to his care until he passed away in 1997. In 1999 she suffered a stroke which left her with breathing problems. Lois will always be remembered for her heart of gold and her generous way of putting others needs ahead of her own. She had a quick wit and was never afraid to voice her own opinion. Lois is a treasure that will be forever missed. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; a son Tom; her parents; her four brothers, Max, Bob, Kenn and Pat; and her sister Phyllis. Lois was the last remaining sibling. Lois is survived by 5 sons, Frank, John, Bob and Pat of Fort Morgan and Jerry of Wray; 11 grandchildren, Tassi, Corey, Zach, Ashley, Amy, Kelsey, Trevor, Alex, Samantha, Jenna and Tommy; and 4 great-grandchildren, Josh, Alyssa, Kylon and Lily Jo. Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan on Wednesday, December 19th from 5 – 7 PM. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 20th at the United Methodist Church in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the church.
