LOUIS DAVID HOPPER, 91, passed away May 25, 2022.  He was born March 11, 1931, in Fort Morgan, CO to Dine and Frona (Watts) Hopper.  Dave was blessed to have three brothers, Don, Sam and Marvin (Bud), and two sisters, Esther and Helen.  He attended K-12 school in Ft. Morgan, CO and graduated in 1950 from Ft. Morgan High.

He married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor "Jean" Trewet, on June 25, 1950. Their lives, together, began in Fort Morgan and they raised four children; David Jr., Dan, Doug and Dee Anne. At the age of 18, Dave began his career at Great Western Sugar Company, working his way up to the factory Master Mechanic. His work required his family to move a lot to other plant sites, which included Colorado, Ohio, Wyoming and Nebraska. He retired from Great Western in Gering, Nebraska in May of 1982, then, took the Master Mechanic job at Southern Minnesota Sugar CO-OP in Renville, Minnesota, where he worked until his retirement in March of 1996.

During his retirement years, Dave and Jean traveled extensively and were members of the Central Minnesota Good Sam's RV Club. They volunteered several years in Orlando, FL, at Wycliffe Bible Translators and went on mission trips to Mexico and Granada. Dave was always ready to lend a helping hand to people in need, no matter the task or the time. He and Jean lived in Olivia, Minnesota until Jean's passing in 2016. They were married 66 years. Dave continued his life at home until Covid hit him hard in 2021. He then moved to Brookings, SD, closer to his daughter, Dee Anne, and her family, spending his last year at The Neighborhoods of Brookview Manor. Dave will be remembered by the way he always made people laugh, whether it was his one liners or a wry smirk.

Dave was a kind, loving, hard working, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his sons, David Hopper (Mari) of Willis, TX, Dan Hopper (Connie) of Gillette, WY, Doug Hopper (Dana) of Phoenix, AZ, daughter, Dee Anne (Greg Miller) of Bruce, SD, eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his sisters, Esther Herdt and Helen Hopper and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Jean, daughter, Sharon Kay, and brothers, Don, Sam and Bud.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
