Obituary

Lucianus "Lou" Adrianus Graulus passed away on June 5th, 2022 at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was 87 years old.

Lucianus was born July 3rd 1934 in Genk Province Limburg, Belgium to parents, Edgar Forentinus Graulus and Rachel Terriere Graulus. He went to school in Genk, Belgium. Then went on to Art school in Hasseld, for industrial arts for 3 years where he received his diploma. He then attended College for 4 years in genk for Arts. To become a professional painter.

Lucianus lived in belgium during World War 2 under Nazi occupation from 1939-1945 and during the United States Army Liberation of Belgium in 1945. He had three siblings, brothers Frans and Constant, and one sister Marie Louis. He painted as a profession in Belgium for 8 years. Then on March 28th 1960 he came to the United States and began painting in Fort Morgan. Not long after he sent for Lucy his wife to come from Belgium to live in the United States. They became U.S Citizens in Sterling, Colorado in the 1960's. They had one child, Jerry Graulus, in 1962. From 1961-1991 he owned and operated Graulus and son Painting out of Fort Morgan, Colorado. Where he painted many homes and businesses throughout the area. He also worked as a ditch rider for the Duell and Snyder Ditch for many years part time. Then once he had his early retirement from painting he worked as a gatekeeper for Morgan County Solid Waste Management. Winning awards from Colorado State University for the work he did for wildlife and conservation on his property. Having three of the most amazing fishing ponds in Morgan County.

Lucianus was a huge part of the Fort Morgan community serving as a Cub Scout Leader and Webelos Leader. He was an assistant Scoutmaster and 24 years as a Scout Commissioner. He has been a member of the Elks lodge since 1973 (49 years) . He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and legion in Brush since 1993. He loved fishing, Hunting, Traveling, dancing, cooking and growing one heck of a garden. You could never compete with his juicy tomatoes or so he would say. Playing poker down at the Elks lodge with all the guys and with his grandson Kyle. He liked watching sports and rooting them on from the Rockies, to the Rapids, and the Denver Broncos. He loved watching and cheering on his grandson in football and wrestling. He would always have a great story to tell about the old days and will be truly missed by family and friends.

Lucianus is survived by his son Jerry Graulus (Karina) of Fort Morgan, CO, and grandson Kyle Graulus of Fort Morgan, CO,  his Brother Frans of Belgium and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Rachel Graulus, Wife Luciana Graulus, Brother Constant Graulus, Sister Marie Louise Royer, and second wife Linda Graulus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 16 th at 10:30 AM at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 340 Stanford Street in Brush. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
