Obituary

Mildred "Lucile" Simpson Harden entered this world on July 26, 1908 at the family farm near Columbus, Nebraska. She departed this world on July 5, 2007 at her daughter's farm home near Hillrose, CO. She was the second of four children to bless the union of George Simpson & Maggie Belle Madden Simpson. After relatively brief experiences in Nebraska and Missouri, the family moved to a farm in the Woodrow community southeast of Brush, CO in January 1917. Lucile and her siblings, Randall Olin, Robert Keith, and Lois Irene, grew to adulthood working on the family farm, attending Antelope Valley School and Woodrow High School in Washington County, CO. Lucile graduated from Woodrow High School with the class of 1929. She entered Colorado State Teachers College that fall with a $100.00 loan from her mother. Lucile began her teaching career in the fall of 1930. She taught 19 ½ of the next 30 years, taking time out to help her husband purchase a farm near Elba, CO, produce their 3 children and finish her BA Degree in education. Lucile spent 1961 and 1962 as Washington County Superintendent of Schools. She retired from a formal career in education in 1963 to spend time with her mother whose health was failing. She continued teacher her skills to family and friends to the end of her days. Her son, Lavern Lee Harden and his wife Mae Elliott Harden live in Tacoma, WA. Her son, Rowland "Ron" Simpson Harden and his wife Johanna Jaeggli Harden live near Parker, CO. Her daughter, Luella Marie Harden Kral lives on a farm near Hillrose, CO. She was saddened to leave her 3 children, her 7 grandchildren, her 13 great grandchildren, and numerous other beloved family and friends. She ventured bravely forth to rejoin family and friends who preceded her departure. No doubt she is already embarked on new teaching and learning experiences. Visitation will be Saturday, July 14th from 9 Am until 12 Noon and Sunday, July 15th from 2 – 5 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Services for Lucile Harden will be Monday, July 16, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel, 222 Cameron Street, Brush, CO. Interment will follow in the Akron Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in Lucile's name to the Akron Senior Center.
