Lucille Krueger passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026 at her home in Brush, Colorado, following a brief battle with cancer. She was 84 years old.

Lucille was born on November 18, 1941, in Brush to August and Elvina (Mohrlang) Brunkhardt. She spent most of her life in the Hillrose area, where she built deep roots, lasting friendships, and a lifetime of cherished memories before recently moving to Brush.

Raised on the family farm and dairy, Lucille enjoyed helping with daily farm life and showing the family's registered Ayrshire cattle alongside her siblings. Those early years instilled in her a strong work ethic, a love of agriculture, and an appreciation for family that remained with her throughout her life. She attended Roosevelt Grade School and graduated from Hillrose High School. Following graduation, she attended Colorado State University for two years.

In 1961, Lucille married Cecil Krueger, and together they established their home on the Krueger family farm, located less than a mile from where she had grown up. Their marriage was blessed with three children: David, Lorraine, and Cristy. Lucille remained on the family farm for the next 64 years, dedicating herself to her family, her church, and her community.

A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillrose, Lucille remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She continued her church involvement after Trinity Lutheran merged to become Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church. Her faith served as a guiding force and a source of strength and comfort for her and those around her.

Lucille found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved tending her garden, playing cards with family and friends, and gathering with loved ones for holidays, celebrations, and everyday visits. Above all, she treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Elvina Brunkhardt; her beloved husband of 53 years, Cecil Krueger; and her brother, Duane Brunkhardt.

Lucille is survived by her son, David (Gisel) Krueger of Kearney; daughters Lorraine (John) Mertens of Brush and Cristy (Josh) Dilley of Walden; five grandchildren, Steven (Stephanie) Mertens, Jill (Daniel) Burnett, Matthew (Danielle) Mertens, Hannah (Sean) Morris, and Sophie (Parker) McGowan; and four great-grandchildren, Liam, Emma, Alana, and Addi. She is also survived by her sisters, Carol Schwarz of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Barbara Crowder of Martinez, California, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.

Lucille will be remembered for the love she shared with all who knew her, and her legacy lives on through the generations she helped nurture and inspire.

A memorial service will be held Thursday July 30, 2026 at Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church, 629 Ensign St, Fort Morgan, at 10:30 AM, followed by inurnment at Brush Memorial Cemetery.
