Obituary

Lydia Weitzel, 92, former Fort Morgan resident, passed away Friday afternoon, August 19, 2011, at the inpatient hospice unit at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. She was born November 19, 1918, in Brush, to John H. & Katherine Marie Koehler. Lydia graduated from Fort Morgan High School. On September 7, 1947, she married Glenn W. Weitzel in Fort Morgan. The Weitzel family farmed south of Fort Morgan for many years. Following Glenn's death in 2006, Lydia moved to Eaton, CO to be closer to her children. She was a member of the Christ Congregational Church in Fort Morgan. She was an avid Colorado Rockies Baseball fan. Lydia enjoyed making lap robes. She made over 700 of the robes, giving them to the Evans, Greeley, and Eaton Police and Fire Departments, the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Cheyenne, WY, and North Colorado Medical Center. Survivors include her 4 children, Glenda Weitzel and Jim Weitzel both of Eaton, Will Weitzel, and his wife Sherry of Nashville, TN, and Bob Weitzel and his wife Chryste of Berthoud, CO; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; 1 sister, Marie; 3 brothers, Harry, John, and Ed; and her parents. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Christ Congregational Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Chapel in Fort Morgan on Monday from 2 – 8 PM. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Christ Congregational Church or to the charity of the Donor's choice.
