Lyla Maxine Carwin, 79, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, entered eternal life surrounded by her loving family on April 15, 2023. Lyla was born on January 29, 1944, in Ovid, Colorado to Ruth and Lyle Ring. She attended Crook high school and was a part of the class of 1962. She later obtained her cosmetology license in 1962 and her GED in 1973.
Lyla married her high school sweetheart Gene Carwin on September 28, 1961 and they were married for 60 years until Gene's death in 2022. They enjoyed bowling and playing cards with their family and many friends.
Lyla wore many hats during her life serving in addition to being mom. For many years she sold home interiors, ran an in-home daycare and also worked for Energy Specialist helping with the finishings of new home builds. Lyla also supported Gene in running Bob's Upholstery for 50 years.
Lyla's faith and love for the Lord was the utmost priority throughout her life and she was involved in her church and enjoyed her weekly bible studies. Lyla loved her friends and being a hostess and was always willing to cook a meal and show up when people were in need. She also enjoyed decorating homemade cakes and crocheting.
Lyla is survived by her four children: LaJean (Mark) Hertel of Colorado Springs, Greg (Deb) Carwin of Fort Morgan, Jaylene (Eric) Kunze of Broomfield, and James (Kelly Rasmussen) Carwin of Fort Morgan, 13 Grandchildren, which were the light of her life: Stefanie Dailey, Stacie Hertel, Kelli (Cody) Klingenberg, Kevin (Shelby) Hertel, Lindsey (Nathan) Wood, Ben (Melissa) Paulsen, Jordan Carwin, Dylan (Jaida) Paulsen, Rachel Carwin, Peyton and Cooper Kunze, and Kristopher and Lemmy Carwin, 10 great grandchildren: Bentley and Kingston Dailey, Ruby Gene Waters, Brody and Zoey Hertel, Odin and Remy Klingenberg, Anastasia and Victoria Paulsen, and Zaiden and Zenley Wood. She is also survived by several brother and sister in laws, beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, numerous cherished friends.
Lyla was proceeded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gene, her parents, brother Norman Ring, her in-laws Donald and Pauline Carwin, brothers-in-law Dutch Carwin and Pat Dorsey, and sisters-in-law Annette and Rebecca "Kae" Carwin and Arlene Ring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests financial support for Lyla's grandson Kristopher Carwin, who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy to support upcoming medical needs. Services will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 at Elevating Church (16756 County Road 18, Ft. Morgan) at 10:30 am. There will be a luncheon immediately following the graveside service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony Home for their love and care of Lyla for the past year and also the doctors and nurses at East Morgan County Hospital in Brush, CO, for their kindness and amazing care of Lyla in her final days.
