Obituary

Marcia Cervantes was born on October 30, 1946 at Portland, OR to Marvin R. and Bernice Gates Green. She was baptized as an infant into the Lutheran faith. When she was about 4 years old, her family moved back to Akron, CO where their roots were.

She attended elementary school in Akron, Woodrow, and Woodlin. Marcia was confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Akron in the eighth grade and graduated from Akron High School in 1964. She then went to LPN school at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO. She spent most of her LPN career at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO where she worked for over 40 years. She was a very caring, dedicated employee and was honored many times, including a nomination for the Florence Nightingale Award.

Marcia married Lupe Cervantes on November 1, 1969. To this union 2 sons were born – Domingo Frank and Mario John. She also acquired many step-children when she married Lupe and she loved them all dearly.

Marcia was the adventurous one of the family and loved to travel. She went to New Orleans, Texas, Mexico, Washington, Oregon, Boston, Georgia, Tennessee, and other places with family. Family was important to her. She kept in touch with kin near and far and was always a strong advocate for the annual Gates reunion.

When Marcia retired, she moved to Pioneer Haven in Akron. She entered the Washington County Nursing Home in March of 2020 where she certainly gave them a run for their money!

She passed away at the North Colorado Medical Center on Sunday, March 14, where she fought bravely to live for several days.

She was preceded in death by husband Lupe Cervantes, her parents, her brother and sister-in-law Ray and Jo Daniels, her sister and brother-in-law Marvel and Jack Meade, stepson Manual Cervantes, nephews Buddy Daniels and James Atwood.

She is survived by sons Domingo (Jennifer) Cervantes and Mario (Suzie) Cervantes, grandchildren Marcus Cervantes and Marissa Cervantes, many beloved step-children and step-grandchildren, sisters Marie (Gary) Gemaehlich and Mary Corporan. She will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers, and care takers. Those who miss her will remember her wit, compassion, strength, and strong will. She will always be "the boss."

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church of Akron. Interment will follow at the Akron Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center or to the Wildlife Sanctuary in Keenesburg, CO.
