Obituary

Margaret Mary Larsen, 94, of Brush, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the Valley View Villa Nursing Home in Fort Morgan. She was born to Arthur & Mary (Monnahan) Haller in her Grandmother's sod house east of Deer Trail, CO, on November 4, 1920. Margaret graduated from Woodrow High School in 1937. She worked in the diet kitchen at the Eben Ezer Hospital. She also worked at the telephone switch board at the Woodrow Store. Margaret married Robert William Hunt on December 23, 1939. To this union a daughter, Shirley, and a son, Russell were born. Margaret's sister, Lillian Stephen, gave birth to a daughter, Nancy, who was born 15 seconds after Lillian's death from all three types of polio. Lillian passed away in an iron lung. Robert and Margaret raised Nancy as their daughter. Margaret was a farm wife who loved being outdoors. She milked cows many years in the dairy she and Robert owned. Margaret worked very hard at a time when few conveniences were available. Robert was killed in a horse riding accident on July 30, 1973. Margaret married Elmore Larsen of Woodrow in 1979. Elmore & Margaret spent many winters in Yuma, AZ. Margaret loved living at the Aladdin Assisted Living Center the last 3 ½ years of her life. She loved to dance, watch the Denver Broncos, play phase 10 and dominos. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Miller of Drake, CO; Russell (Barbara) Hunt of Jetmore, KS; Nancy (Dewain) Shapley of Stoneham, CO; Pat Gunn of Jeffersonville, IN, 3 grandchildren, Mark Monheiser, Chelsea Hunt and Heather Scholl; great grandchildren, Myranda Monheiser, Blake Monheiser, and Marni Scholl.; and her brother Ray (June) Haller of Woodrow. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Hunt and husband Elmore Larsen; daughter Kay Larsen and son Byron Larsen; sister Lillian Stephen, brother-in-law, Gene Stephen; and son-in-law, Rich Miller. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 7, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brush. Inurnment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM at the Church. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Brush Meet n Eat Program or to the Morgan County Ambulance Service both c/o the Heer Mortuary.
