Obituary

Margy B. Van Dyke, 86, longtime area resident, died peacefully Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Valley Villa Care Center in Ft. Morgan. Margy was born April 18, 1928 in Ansley, NE to Roy and Helen (Kaelin) Fox. She was the sixth child born into a close and lively family of nine children. The Fox family moved to Julesberg, Colorado in 1929. Margy graduated from Julesberg High School and following her graduation worked as a telephone operator with the local phone company. In 1947, she married Carl William Larson and moved to Boulder and Denver, Colorado. They were blessed with three wonderful boys and a beautiful daughter. In 1976, she married Dr. Bill Bradley and they lived in Monte Vista, CO, Fayetteville, AK, Memphis, TN, and Santa Fe, NM. Margy had a keen desire to continue her education and at 50 years old enrolled in college, completed her degree in criminal justice and went on to garner her Master's Degree in clinical social work at the University of New Mexico. The completion of her degrees was one of her proudest moments as she was able to serve as a certified counselor. In 1985, Margy moved to Ft. Morgn where she established a meaningful practice as a family therapist. She became an active member of the Ft. Morgan community as a member of the Sisterhood of P.E.O, a member of the First United Methodist Church, a docent of the Ft. Morgan, Museum, and served as a leader of the Medical Auxiliary of the Plains Medical Center. On December 26, 1991, she married Charles (Charlie) VanDyke. They enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. in an RV, living in Texas and Ft. Morgan. They made great friends wherever they traveled and lived. Together, they loved being active and were avid golfers, dancers, and CU football enthusiasts. Charlie died after a battle with cancer Sept. 22, 2003. Margy's days were always full, as she loved working as a family therapist touching the lives of so many, being a part of her Friday Club, playing bridge, cooking, gardening and traveling with her sisters. She was a tough competitor in her favorite Hand and Foot card games! Margy delighted in being a mother, grandmother and great-grand mother always thinking of ways to show special affection to each and everyone onecooking favorite Christmas cookies, cinnamon rolls, attending grandchildren's music and sporting events, graduations, weddings and fixing the holiday feasts. First to give a hug and listen, quick to laugh and give a wise wink and always there for others, she lived every moment with positive enthusiasm. Margy is survived by her children: Mike Larson (Lissa Tyler) of Vail, CO, Andy Larson (Susy) of Houston, TX, Jim Larson (Marcia) of Conifer, CO, Darcy Castle (Tom) of Washington, D.C. Her sisters Delores Calmer, Ft. Morgan, CO and Louise Brandon, Alma, NE and her brother Tom Fox (Margy) of Dana Point, CA. Nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Margy was preceded in death by her husband Charlie VanDyke, four sisters two brothers and her loving parents. Memorial Services will be Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Ft. Morgan. Her ashes will be buried with her parents in Julesburg Hillside Cemetery later this summer.
