Marie Herbst, 89, life long Morgan County resident died Tuesday October 6, 2009 at the Medalion Nursing Home in Colorado Springs. Marie was born October 26, 1919 in Rago, Colorado to Charles and Edith (Miller) McDowell. She married Alexander Herbst on Aug 15, 1939 in Fort Morgan. They made their home in Fort Morgan until November of 2008 when they moved to Colorado Springs to be close to their son Gary and his family. Marie was a homemaker, a loving wife and mother and devoted her time and talents to her family. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, playing games, fishing, and cooking. Marie is survived by her son Gary and his wife Sheryl of Peyton; two grandaughters Jennifer (Herbst) Schawe her husband Brandon Schawe, and Tamarah Herbst. She was preceeded in death by Alexander her husband of 69 years, her brothers Charles Raymond McDowell, Robert David McDowell, William McDowell, and her sisters Mildred Irene (McDowell) Rees, Laura Mae (McDowell) Gobel, and her parents. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Heer and Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. The Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.
