Marilyn R.
Edson
May 29, 1939 — Jun 19, 2021
Marilyn Ruth (Fishback) Edson of Brush, CO, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 19 of natural causes. Marilyn was born in 1939 in Denver, CO, and grew up in a happy childhood full of hope and optimism.
Marilyn graduated from Denver East High School in 1957 and headed off to the University of Northern Colorado. Soon after arriving at UNC she met her future husband, Joe Edson. As Marilyn tells the story, Joe was infatuated with her before they even met. "He saw me and told his friend he was going to marry me," recalled Marilyn. She said she didn't show too much interest in the beginning, playing hard-to-get, but conceded, "I thought he was a gentleman and had a nice smile."
Joe and Marilyn marry in 1958 and move to Washington state as Joe served out his time in the draft. After the military, Marilyn and Joe moved to Yuma, CO, so Joe could begin his teaching and coaching career. Joe & Marilyn's first son, Mark, was born in Yuma, and then the family moved to Brush in 1963. Second son Patrick was born; he was supposed to be a girl, but poor Marilyn was stuck in a house with three boys who loved sports and hunting.
Marilyn distinguished herself for a strong work ethic, employed in various retail stores in Brush for 30 years, including Strauch Bootery, Fortee Fashions and Western Exchange. She loved people, having lunch with friends, and showing artistic flair making various crafts and pottery. Marilyn spent her retirement volunteering to help run the gift store at East Morgan County Hospital.
Family and friends will remember Marilyn for her loving spirit, big smile, and empathy. The smallest acts of kindness and respect quickly won Marilyn's gratitude and appreciation. Upon entering heaven, Marilyn will be quick to find whimsical hats, dancing and laughing.
Marilyn is survived by Joe Edson (husband), Mark Edson (son), Christine Tutt (daughter-in-law), Cade Edson (grandson), Patrick Edson (son); Erin Goff (daughter-in-law), Parker Goff Chrisbens (step granddaughter) and Lee Fishback (brother) and Dort Fishback (sister-in-law). She was preceded in death by Timothy Lee Edson (son).
A memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Brush United Methodist Church. The service will conclude at the church.
We welcome your thoughts and prayers for Marilyn in lieu of donations, but for those who desire to make a donation, you may contribute to the East Morgan County Auxiliary or the Brush Public Library- please send to the Heer Mortuary in Brush
