Obituary

Martha L. Wessel, age 89, a Colorado Springs resident since 1955 and formerly of Sterling, Colorado passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Springs Village Healthcare Center in Colorado Springs. She was retired after working for many years as an Administrative Assistant in the accounting offices of Penrose Hospital. Martha L. Lauck was born on December 31, 1920 in Brush, Colorado to Henry and Susan Lauck. She married Edward Wessel on March 23, 1980 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church of Colorado Springs and enjoyed roses, baking, and working in her yard. Martha especially enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her relatives. She will be best remembered for her kindness and generosity. Martha is survived by her son, Howard Hanson of Colorado Springs; her brothers: George Lauck of Fort Morgan, Colorado and Emanuel Lauck of Denver, Colorado; and a grand-daughter, Amber. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wessel was preceded in death by her parents; ten brothers and sisters: John Lauck, Lydia Lauck-Foos, Marie Lauck-Schriener, Katherine Lauck, Henry Lauck, Peter Lauck, Susie Lauck-Carpenter, David Lauck, Leah Lauck-Neb, Samuel B. Lauck. A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home in Colorado Springs. A second visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Heer and Dahl Mortuary, 222 Cameron Street, Brush, Colorado with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Memorials in Martha's name may be made to the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 825 East Pikes Peak Avenue #600, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903 or Ascension Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 2505 North Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909. Blessed be her memory. The Shrine of Remembrance, Colorado Springs, CO and Heer & Dahl Mortuary are in charge of the arrangements.
