Obituary

On September 24th of 2024 we lost Martin Sammy Gardea, Beloved Husband, Son, Family Man and Dear Friend. Martin passed unexpectedly in his home in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 39.

Martin was born on October 5th, 1984 in Fort Morgan, Colorado.  Martin was raised in Fort Morgan by his mother Virginia Gallegos where he developed strong bonds with his three siblings, eleven nieces and nephews, and many life long friends. Martin then went on to pursue his passion for art leaving Fort Morgan for Denver to receive a bachelors degree in Fine Art from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 2007. Colorado couldn't contain him and he left for San Fransisco in 2009.  He received his masters degree in 2014 from the San Fransisco Art Institute.  While in San Fransisco he met the love of his life Sara Wanie. They were soon married in 2015, and shared many cherished moments and dreams of moving back to her home state of Wisconsin. Martins excitement for his new life ahead was always on display especially when talking about the future and what it held for him and Sara. His outgoing nature, kindness, and huge heart made for fast and long-lasting friendships with many all over the world.

Martin is survived by his loving wife Sara Wanie (Weston, WI); loving mother, Virginia Gallegos (Fort Morgan, CO); Mother-in-law and father-in-law, Erlene and Merlin Ketchum (Weston, WI). Sisters Lisa Cardena (Fort Morgan, CO) Nina Nunez (Fort Morgan, CO) He was especially close with nephew, A.J. Flores; and niece, Savannah Garcia (both of Fort Morgan, CO). He also had close relationships with his 9 other nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews. Along with other members of the Wanie, Gallegos, Grubbs, and Ketchum Families.
