Marvin Earl Gross longtime resident of Morgan County entered Life Triumphant October 27, 2017, he was 81. Marvin was born in Alma, NE August 9, 1936 to his parents George and Annie (Hancock) Gross. When Marvin was 5 years old Annie married Carl Bengston who worked for the railroad and they traveled to many places. In 1947 the family moved to Brush, CO and he graduated a Beetdigger in 1955. While in school he played baseball, a pretty fair pitcher, that led him to play with the town team from Snyder and "The Baker Boys." October 13, 1957 he married Mildred Houston from Hillrose. Shortly after their wedding he was drafted and served in the Army during peace times as a cook and later a clerk for a colonel. When he returned from the military and was asked what he learned he said, "I can make mashed potatoes for 200 men."

After his service in the military he began working at Johnson's Super Foods in Ft. Morgan. He was a butcher and loved to meet people in the store. He would move to Ft. Collins and work at Steele's market before returning to Ft. Morgan and working at Green Acres market. While he was there a man offered him a job as a route salesman for Frito Lay, thus he became the "Chip Man". For over 20 years he would get up early in the morning and deliver potato chips from Wray to Hudson and all points in-between. Store clerks and customers alike knew he was in the store because he loved to talk to people, tell a joke, smile and always thank the patron when they took a bag off the shelf.

In 2002, after Mildred's death he retired from Frito Lay and began working at Edwards Right Price Market. It was there that he would carry-out groceries and greet people going in and out of the store. His smile was contagious and his jokes never ended. He was a fixture in the store. On August 9, 2014 he married Nancy Snelling, his heart was full again. Marvin loved his grandchildren and could be seen at all their sporting events and concerts. He would beam with pride whenever they came into the store and had to show them off to everyone. He was also a huge sports fan and loved to cheer on his beloved Broncos and Rockies. He was very active in the Presbyterian church serving as an elder, a deacon and "making a joyful noise" in the church choir.
