Marvin Albert Troudt, 81, long-time area resident of Fort Morgan, died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at his rural home southwest of Fort Morgan, following a valiant battle with lung cancer. Marvin was born March 12, 1934, the oldest of four sons, to Albert and Emma (Gorr) Troudt at his grandparent's home northeast of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was the husband of Joanne (Madison) Troudt and the father of four daughters; Roxanne, Sandra, Stephanie, and Colleen. At the age of 11, he moved with his parents and family to Colorado. He attended church and school in the Greeley area. He graduated in 1951 from Gill High School, as class salutatorian. In August 1953, he married Joanne Madison and they began their lives together as a farming couple. They would farm in the Gill, Kuner, Platteville, Wiggins, and finally Fort Morgan communities for 53 years. Marvin was an accomplished farmer raising sugar beets, corn, pinto beans, wheat, hay and even potatoes. They raised beef cattle, hogs and in the early years, they also had a dairy of milk cows. In the fall of 2006, Marvin was diagnosed with lung cancer and he began his warrior fight against this devastating disease. He retired from farming and endured a rigorous regimen of chemo and radiation therapies with the reward of good health for several years. In 2012, cancer reappeared and Marvin once again fought for his health until he could no longer. Marvin was an active member of all his communities during his lifetime. He was a member of Lions Club International, a board member of the Milken Early Potato Association, Fort Morgan, and the Colorado Sugar Beet Growers, serving his fellow beet farmers as a member for 17 years. He was an active member of the St. Paul's Congregational Church in Greeley. Marvin was confirmed and married there and his daughters were baptized there. Marvin and Joanne enjoyed the Young Couples Club until they moved to Morgan County. In 1973, Marvin and Joanne joined Immanuel Evangelical Church in Fort Morgan. He was an active member of this congregation; he served on the church board in many capacities for numerous years. Marvin was also a member of Gideons International and a member of the local Brush Camp, serving in leadership roles also for this group. Marvin enjoyed his family and friends. He loved hosting family events; and friends for meals or evenings of games, cards, or visiting. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up, traveling to see their numerous activities. He forged a deep bond with each of them. His greatest joy was his great-grandson, Jack. Marvin will be remembered as a storyteller. He never met a person who he could not engage in conversation. Marvin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joanne. His children Roxanne Troudt of Greeley; Sandy Troudt and Nanci Hopper of Keller, Texas; Colleen and David Miller of Colorado Springs. Also, his grandchildren Laurel and Brian Stone of Denver, Patrick Miller of Superior; Kellen Miller of Colorado Springs, and especially his great-grandson, Jack Patrick Stone. Other survivors include aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Tommy, Roger and Calvin and his daughter Stephanie. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 15th at 10:00 AM at the Immanuel Evangelical Church, 318 W. 7th Ave. in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
