MARY LORETTA (BROWN) LEHRER, 90, passed away on December 30, 2007 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush of Alzheimer's Disease. Mary was born September 8, 1917 in Douglas, WY, the third child of Earl & Mae (Hahesy) Brown. She was raised with her brothers and sisters on the T-Chair Ranch, a cattle and sheep ranch, in southern Campbell County, WY near the Pumpkin Buttes. She attended the rural Brown Elementary School with her brothers and sisters, often riding to school on horseback. Mary graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette, WY in 1934. Moving to Denver, Mary attended Saint Joseph's Hospital Nursing School, graduating with a Registered Nurse degree in 1939. Mary met Lawrence "Larry" Lehrer on a blind date and they were married February 22, 1941 in Denver. She lived and worked in the Denver area while her husband served in Italy during World War II. Mary & Larry had one son, Lawrence Earl Lehrer, born on December 27, 1947. They made their home in Denver where Larry worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and Mary worked at various Denver hospitals and on private duty nursing cases. They both retired in 1973 and moved to Casper, WY before moving to Fort Morgan in 1977. In their younger years, Mr. & Mrs. Lehrer were avid square dancers. They were members of the Buttons and Bows Square Dance Club. Mary was also an accomplished horseman and enjoyed stake racing and going on trail rides in the mountains. After retiring, Mary took up golf with her husband. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and hosting family dinners. Mary was a member of Saint Helena Catholic Church and served as a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Fort Morgan Womens Golf Association. Mary & Larry enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Patagonia, Argentina, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. They also cruised the Carribean and Panama Canal. They especially enjoyed return trips to the Ranch in Wyoming. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Earl; her mother, Mae; her husband, Larry; two brothers, Bernard and Franklin Brown; and three sisters, Esther and Earlene Brown and Thelma Ohman. She is survived by her son, Dr. Earl Lehrer & his wife Vicki and one granddaughter, Melinda Knipe & her husband Ryan. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 from 1 – 3 PM at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Jan. 4th at 10:30 AM at Saint Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the church followed by cremation. Private family Inurnment will be in Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Saint Helena Catholic Church, or to Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in care of the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan.
