Mary
Chaves
Mar 7, 1949 — Jul 16, 2021
Mary Chaves, 72, life resident of Morgan County, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Columbine West Health & Rehab Facility in Fort Collins, CO. She was born on March 7, 1949, in Hillrose, CO to Pete & Felisita Medina.
Mary worked at the Adubon, now known as the Golden Harvest of Colorado, in Akron. An injury to her hand forced her to retire. She was a very independent, hardworking, strong woman. She loved to be outside whether it was cutting the grass or washing her truck. She was a very good softball player in her earlier years. She loved listening to music and watching the Denver Broncos play football.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Carlos) Parra of Dumas, TX; her grandchildren, Santara (Joel) Rodriguez, Marcus Parra and Carlos Parra, and 1 great grandson, Emiliano Rodriguez. Also, by 4 sisters Julia (Ed) Sanchez, Rose (Gabe) Rodriguez, Jennie (Nick) Padilla, Carmen (Art) Quezada; and 1 brother, Pete (Teresa) Medina; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Pete Medina Sr., her mother, Felisita Medina; and three brothers, Felix Medina, Manuel Medina, and Ray Medina. Ray was a very special brother to Mary as he cared for her deeply and called her everyday until, sadly, he took his last breath. Mary Chaves truly was the original Nana of the family.
