Mary Lou Weatherbie of Fort Morgan passed away on September 12, 2025.

Mary Lou was born on October 9, 1931 in Vermillion, Kansas to George A. and Barbara E. Jeanneret. She was the youngest of five children.  She grew up on a farm with sister Adrienne and brothers Dale, Aaron and George Chris. She graduated from Onaga High School in 1949.  That fall she met the new guy in town, Freddie Weatherbie, and they were married on July 1, 1950. They were blessed with four children: Tom, Dan, Ron and Janice.  Fred and Mary were married 68 years before he passed away. Their life together was marked by unwavering love and countless red roses gifted by Fred throughout the years.

Our mother was a kind, caring, and giving person, loving each and every family member with her whole heart. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity.

Mary enjoyed being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She took pride in being there for all 10 of her grandkids and 11 great-grandkids, with one on the way, due to come on Mary's birthday.

Cooking and baking were two favorite hobbies that she had perfected. You couldn't leave her home without a full belly; she taught her family how to make a feast and prioritize homemade noodles. Noodles, not gravy, go over mashed potatoes, by the way. Every grandchild and even great-grandkids had many opportunities to learn baking and cooking with their grandmother.

Her passion for quilting was more than another hobby: it was a legacy. Each piece she crafted tells a story, wraps loved ones in comfort and is treasured as an heirloom to be passed down through generations. She made well over 100 quilts and many more wall hangings and other gifts. She took pride in perfecting her masterpieces and even teaching others. Calico Quilters were a big part of her quilting journey where she made many friends and participated in yearly quilt shows. She enjoyed making baby blankets for expecting families through her church. Mary quilted baby blankets for two of her great-grandbabies just months ago and sewed with her daughter Janice just three days before her passing.

She inspired those around her with her resilience and strength.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, and her son, Tom.

She is survived by sons, Dan (Connie) and Ron (Karen); daughter Janice (Jerry) Musgrave; and daughter-in-law Linda (Tom) Weatherbie, grandchildren Jay (Jack) Weatherbie; Kristin Montgomery; Aaron (Amanda) Weatherbie; Evan (Matthew) Weatherbie; Chanda (Brad) Brashears; Damon (Shanna) Weatherbie; Adrian (Joseph) Schroer; Lisa (Andrew) Dykes; Stacy (Justin) Bass and Kyle (Elise) Weatherbie; and great-grandchildren Madden, Maren and McLaine Montgomery; Makenzie Weatherbie, and Mataya and Holden Fuentes; Benton and Emory Brashears; Rowan and Brecklyn Bass; and Everett Dykes.

A memorial service will be Thursday, September 18th at 10:00 AM at Platte Valley Baptist Church, 22750 Highway 34 in Fort Morgan.
