Obituary

Mauro Gonzalez, 56, of Brush, CO Passed away at 12:17 AM on October 17, 2024, as East Morgan County Hospital due to an illness he had been battling for 2 years.

Mauro was a hard-working man. His life's work was in concrete construction. He worked for Glosson Construction and did many jobs throughout Northeastern Colorado, including at the home he shared with his loving wife and caregiver, Donna Harper. Together, they made the house what it is today.

Mauro and Donna have been together since 2013. Before his illness, they did a lot together, including gambling at Blackhawk, taking a trip to Las Vegas, and attending many concerts. Mauro and Donna were young at heart and loved to dress up for Halloween, sing and dance, and had a whole room of guitars and a set of drums they didn't know how to play, but still did so for fun. When Mauro's illness slowed them down, their love of puzzles took over. The puzzles line the walls of their home and garage; everything from wizards and dragons to scenic pictures and movies. Mauro had an undying love for his favorite sports team; the Dallas Cowboys. His Dallas memorabilia can be found throughout the house. They had/have dogs in their life, Romeo, Poopus, Echo, and Ziggy. Romeo and Poopus have passed away, and now Echo and Ziggy are all that remain.

Mauro's love for his children, Ashley George, 35 of Windsor, and Zachariah Santana Rutherford Gonzalez, 24 of Lakewood, Co, and grandchild Decker Jo Harbert, 3, was great, though he was able to spend more time with his son. Zachariah, referred to as "Santana" by Mauro and Donna, brought him joy, a lot of proud moments watching him become the successful man he is today, and a lot of young new music. Santana spent a great deal of time helping them out with whatever they needed, including countless visits/stays at the hospital, yard work, and puzzles.

Mauro is preceded in death by his father; Benito Gonzalez; mother, Pauline Gonzalez; and sisters, Mary Hinojos and Pauline Green. He is survived by his wife; Donna Harper; brothers, Joe Acosta and Martin Garcia; daughter, Ashley George, grandson Decker Joe Harbert; son Zachariah Santana Rutherford Gonzalez; his brother, Frank Garcia, and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 at Heer Mortuary in Brush at 10:00 AM.
