Maxine Comer, 91, of Fort Morgan went to be with her Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, she was at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. Maxine Fredonia Garland was born to Huron and Ruby (Hickman) Garland on January 27, 1919 in Wheelock, Texas. She graduated from Mildred (Texas) High School and attended college in Jacksonville, Texas. She married Richard (Dick) Comer, her high school sweetheart, on October 10, 1937. After years of following the oilfield booms in Texas, they moved to Fort Morgan in July of 1953. She worked as a bookkeeper for Dick in their business until his health declined. He died July 2, 1994. Maxine had a heart of gold and spent much of her time volunteering for many causes. She never met a person in need the she would not help. She was truly an "Angel Among Us". We could go on forever talking about her wonderful life. She has written her autobiography which covers her life until she became ill in 2005. It is filled with her life experiences and plenty of humor. We hope to have it reproduced and available at a later date. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Comer; her parents, Huron and Ruby Garland; three brothers, Hugh, Harold, and Cotton Garland, and grandson, Lyn Crumley. She leaves behind a loving family including her son, Hugh Comer and wife, Connie, of Loveland and her daughter, Judy Crumley and husband, Jack, of Akron; four grandsons, Tim, Rick, Gregg and Michael; nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Fort Morgan with Reverend Phil Tarman officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
