Nelda Maxine Galyk, 83, longtime area resident, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Eben Ezer Luthern Care Center in Brush, CO due to complications from Non Small Cell Lung cancer. Maxine was born January 18, 1933 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Noah and Ethel Ingmire. She married Tony Galyk on January 18, 1961 at the Brush United Methodist Church. Tony passed away in July 2012. Maxine grew up in Brush and graduated from Brush High School in 1951.
Maxine worked at the First National Bank and its successor Bank of Colorado for 50 years. Maxine served the community through her various roles at the bank, retiring in 2003 as Vice President, Cashier. Maxine and Tony owned and operated Galyk's Grill in the late 1970's as a family business. Maxine supported the business as its comptroller and treasurer. After retirement Maxine continued to serve the community as a volunteer at the EMCH Gift Shop.
Maxine was active participant with the Brush Rodeo Association, Brush Jaycees as Tony's spouse, a member of the EMCH Women's Auxiliary where she served a term as Treasurer, and a member of the Brush United Methodist Church.
Maxine enjoyed family visits, traveling, and working in the community. She cheered for the Brush Beetdiggers, Colorado Buffalos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos and Wisconsin Badgers as alumni of its School of Banking. Maxine developed an interest in horse racing from her days as a cashier at Memorial Park in Brush during the 1950's. She loved to watch the Kentucky Derby and ventured out to Del Mar Thoroughbred Club on visits to California.
Maxine along with Tony spent most of their post retirement years with their grandchildren Caleb, Brooklynn, Levi and Kelsi. Maxine enjoy morning walks with her neighbor and good friend Loretta Tormohlen as well as going to the big city to see her children Scott, Merrie and their families. Maxine enjoyed baking treats for the family and taking cooking lessons from Tony.
Survivors include daughter Merrie Cox, her husband Chad Cox, grandsons Caleb Cox and Levi Cox, granddaughter Brooklynn Cox, son Scott Galyk, daughter in-law Lori Galyk, granddaughters Kelsi Galyk and Kendall Maccagnan, sister in-law Laura Ingmire, brother in-law Michael Galyk and his wife Janet Galyk, sister in-law Barbara Galyk, sister in-law Virginia Plumley, sister in-law Jane Miner, sister in-law Sonny Galyk and sister in-law Camille Galyk. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Tony, brother Elton Ingmire, brother Roy Ingmire and his wife Bev Ingmire, sister Donna Schilling and her husband Ralph Schilling, an infant brother, and her parents Noah and Ethel Ingmire.
A Memorial Service will be Monday, September 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Brush United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Maxine Galyk Memorial Fund c/o the Heer Mortuary.
