Melva L. Bowles, 77, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. She was born February 25, 1931, in Haxtun, CO to Everett & Olive Northup. The Northup family moved to the New Raymer community where Melva attended and later graduated from New Raymer High School. Melva worked as a secretary at the Fort Morgan Middle School for 12 years. She later provided home care for several elderly folks in the Fort Morgan area. She enjoyed working in her garden, playing the piano, baking wedding cakes, and doing crafts of all types. Survivors include her 2 children, Cheryll Steinbeck of North Platte, NE, and Tim Bowles of Olathe, KS; 1 brother, Dan Northup of Texas; 2 sisters, Elva Steffen of North Platte, NE and Olive Mitchell of Cypress, TX; 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Oral Northup and Harold Northup; 4 sisters, Luella Meyers, Mildred Wisdom, Sadie Caneva, and Elma Ecord; and her parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008, at 11:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. The service will conclude at the chapel. Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan at a later date.
