Melvin R. McDaniel, 68, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, following a lengthy illness.  He was born January 14, 1953, in Trinidad, CO to William & Helen McDaniel.

Mel graduated from Brush High School in 1971.  He attended college to increase his skills as a collision repairman and worked in this trade for many years.  Mel was a patrolman with the Brush Police Dept. for several years and later Chief of Police in Julesburg, CO.  He most recently worked as an auto parts salesman.  Mel enjoyed working on his wood projects in his little shop, making beautiful wood items for family and friends, all the while listening to his music that he loved. Mel also had a classic model car collection, which he started years ago.  He also enjoyed his time with his friend Gene, and his little buddy Brooks.  Mel enjoyed yard work and keeping things beautiful.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty and family; his Mother Helen McDaniel; 3 children Shantel, Monica McDaniel, and Misty Wren; Betty's children Leroy, Brenda, and Kim; 1 sister, Linda; 2 brothers Robin and Alan (Cheryl); 17 grandchildren and step grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren;     He was preceded in death by his Father William McDaniel; and 3 stepsons Mike Pangle, Jeff Pangle, and Doug Pangle.

At Mel's request, no formal service will be held.  Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Heer Mortuary & Crematory.  Friends who wish may make donations in Mel's name to the Hospice of the Plains at www.hospiceoftheplains.org.
