Melvin Edward Van Meter, 56, longtime area resident, died Friday, July 10, 2015 after a work related accident in Washington County. Melvin was born June 12, 1959 in La Junta, CO to Merle and Adalee "Faye" Van Meter. He graduated from Wells High School in Wells, NV in 1977. Melvin has worked for the Morgan County REA for the last 28 years, first as a lineman and then a serviceman. Melvin was a member of the IBEW and the Morgan Saddle Club. A true cowboy, he especially enjoyed anything to do with horses, roping, and rodeo. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing. Melvin was a kind, loyal and honest man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He was a dear friend to many, but most of all, he was a devout and loving father, never missing any of his children's school or sporting events. Melvin is survived by his children, Wyatt Van Meter and Jordan Van Meter of Wiggins, along with their mother, Karina Van Meter, whom Melvin continued to care for and be in support of. He is also survived by his two brothers, Ron Van Meter (Jody) of Wells, NV, and Lonnie (Joni) Van Meter of Fort Morgan; his three sisters, LuAnn Whalen of Elko, NV, Merlene Patterson (John) of Firestone, and Lorie Weber of Longmont, and a host of many dear friends and extended family. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 17th at the Wiggins Event Center in Wiggins. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a contribution to be used for Melvin's children.
