Melvin J. Schrum, 81, long time Fort Morgan resident, died Friday evening at the Valley View Villa in Ft. Morgan. He was born July 6, 1928 near Kulm, North Dakota, to Jacob and Christina Schrum. He married Patricia May Hudson on November 13, 1965 in Fort Morgan. They made Fort Morgan their home where he worked as a mill operator for the Fort Morgan Mills for many years. He also drove trucks between the Mill's Fort Morgan plant and their Denver plant and made deliveries to farmers for a few years before he retired in 1992. He enjoyed playing bingo, dancing the polka, and especially enjoyed visiting with friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his children, Melvin Schrum, Lawrence Schrum, Alvina Schrum, Michael Schrum, Linda Dahl, Ronald Schrum and Michelle Johns, all of Fort Morgan; and 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 7 brothers, Reinhold, Jacob, Albert, Fred, Wilbert, Ivan, John; 8 sisters, Irene, Violet, Adeline, Carrie, Freida, Ellen, Rose and Pauline, and one granddaughter, and three great grandsons. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-5 PM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM also at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens.
