Michael Joseph Browne Sr. 67, area resident since 1987 died Sunday, August 19, 2007 at his home in Ft. Morgan. He was born February 24, 1940 in Syracuse, New York to Edward and Anne (Gelshenen) Browne. He married Valerie E. Smith on June 4, 1961 in Kingston, New York. She died in 1985. Michael served in the Army National Guard of New York and also the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1965. Michael worked as a manufacturing manager and held several other positions with IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was also instrumental in the start up of the IBM facility in Boulder, Colorado retiring from IBM after 25 years of service. After his years with IBM he raised Angus and Maine-Anjou cattle on the Hay Hook Angus Ranch in Wiggins. He decided to slow down a little so he sold the ranch in 2000 and started and ran the M.J. Browne Trucking Company. Michael was a NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed the races at the I-76 race track in Ft. Morgan and had sponsored a couple of cars that raced there. He loved his grandchildren and they were very special to him. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara A. Browne of West Palm Beach, Florida and Susan Griffith and husband Scott of Ft. Morgan, one son, Michael J. Browne Jr. and wife Cathryn of Allen, Texas, one sister, Kam Browne Doetzer of Lake George New York, one brother, Rev. Francis J. Browne, C. Ss. R., Pastor of the Sacred Heart Church in New Smyrna Beach, Florida of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and grandchildren, Lindsay C. and Ashleigh L. Browne, Sean Patrick, and step granddaughter Madison Griffith. Browne was preceded in death by his parents, wife Valerie and two brothers, Edward and John Browne. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel in Ft. Morgan. There will be cremation, so the services will conclude at the mortuary.
