Obituary

Michael Gene Headley, 64, of Fort Morgan passed away suddenly of a heart attack on January 3, 2022 at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan.

Mike was born at Eben Ezer Hospital in Brush on December 12, 1957 to Galen & Thelma Jean (Bersch) Headley. He was raised on every young boy's paradise Northeast of Snyder and became an avid hunter and fisherman, utilizing every spare moment to hone his skills. He was well known for his marksmanship abilities throughout his life. He started his education at the old Snyder school building, and he liked to tell the story that he skipped straight to the 1 st grade! He received his elementary education in Snyder until the school closed his 5 th grade year and the transition was made to Brush School District. He graduated from BHS in 1975 and continued working for the family farm and ranch operation, as well as running heavy equipment for Headley Sand & Gravel. He did a brief stint in the oilfield before obtaining employment with Sterling Beef in 1982 where he worked his way up to Shipping Superintendent before his retirement from Cargill in 2011. Not one to sit at home after retirement, he worked as a truck driver for Kraft Dairy in Fort Morgan at the time of his death, where he was recently named "most dedicated employee". Michael never left a job undone!

Mike's favorite day of the week was Sunday because it was spent with his wife and family. He loved his family fiercely, especially his beloved wife and best friend Jackie. He and his wife enjoyed spending all their spare time together. One of his favorite titles was 'Papa' and his grandchildren were the light of his life. His gentle ways with them all will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jackie Headley; 5 children – Michael (Maria) Headley Jr of Fort Morgan, Nathan Headley of Denver, Chace (Amber) Headley of Sterling, Marissa (Jett) Grooms of Brush, and Kasi (Chris) Sievers of Greeley; 7 grandchildren (+2 on the way) Eddie Erives of Greeley, Damaris Erives of Fort Morgan, Michelle & Michael Headley of Fort Morgan and River, Waylon & June Grooms of Brush; Father Galen Headley of Bluff, Utah & Mother-in-law Sally Davison of Fort Morgan; Siblings Lynn (Ed) Golemboski of Hillrose, Dan (Michelle) Headley of Denver, and Pamela (Mike) Yearous of Bluff, Utah; plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was welcomed at the gates of heaven by his beloved mother Thelma Jean; maternal grandparents BJ & Katie Bersch; paternal grandparents Amos & Grace Maude Headley and father-in-law Ross Brown.
