Michael Duane
Molthop
Jul 23, 1957 — Jun 5, 2023
Michael Duane Molthop, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2023, in Fort Morgan. He had recently returned to Colorado after living a year in Largo, Florida. Michael loved the ocean and spent many happy days at the beach.
Mike grew up in Littleton, where he attended Columbine High School. He worked many years at the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Denver. Feeling inspired to set out on an adventure, his next job was working on a cruise ship in Hawaii. When he returned to Colorado, he moved to Fort Morgan, and he went to truck driving school and got his CDL license. He had quite a talent for backing up big rigs, but he found he didn't enjoy mountain driving. The next eight years, Mike maintained a private golf course on the South Platte River. He loved working outdoors and he enjoyed "talking" to the birds. When he was no longer able to do that kind of work, he learned a whole new set of skills to help build vacuum trucks from the chassis up.
In addition to Mike's life-long love of nature, animals, and the Denver Broncos, he enjoyed cooking and partying with friends. Mike was always down-to-earth and never pretentious. He had a very open and caring heart and was willing to share his last dollar with a person in need.
Mike was proceeded in death by his father, Peter Duane Molthop and his mother, Ann Salter Molthop. He is survived by his brother, Stephen Molthop, his sister, Timmy Fritzler, and his beloved brother-in-law, Gene Fritzler, all of Fort Morgan.
A memorial service will not be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Morgan Humane Society.
